Liverpool reject offer for Ryan Kent, with Rodgers chasing Championship deal

Liverpool have turned down a tentative approach from Swindon Town for talented midfielder Ryan Kent – who impressed with a cameo appearance during our 2-1 friendly victory over the Robins on Sunday.

The League One side have already taken three of our players on loan ahead of the new season, with Kevin Stewart, Jordan Williams and Lawrence Vigouroux having all bizarrely featured against us last weekend.

But their chairman, Lee Power, was also impressed by what he saw from Kent and met with Brendan Rodgers after the game to try and force through a move – as the Liverpool Echo have since reported.

Unfortunately for Power, he looks unlikely to get his man, with Rodgers instead wanting to send his young starlet to a Championship team – where he would get experience at a higher and more competitive level.

The Echo state that a number of teams from the second tier are interested in the 18-year-old, who also featured during our pre-season tour of the Far East last month, with MK Dons and Huddersfield Town among the favourites to make a move.

Kent could join fellow Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo in the Championship, with the teenager having recently completed his move to promotion chasing Wolves, shortly after signing a new contract.
