Rodgers: “James is someone I’d admired for a long time. He gives everything. He’s always in here two & a half hours before we train.”

The former Manchester City midfielder has clearly impressed manager Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the Liverpool hierarchy with both his performances and his attitude thus far, leading to his appointment in the role.

Milner will assist England teammate Jordan Henderson next season, with his fellow midfielder having taken over the captaincy from Steven Gerrard at the start of the summer.
The 29-year-old has a great pedigree of success in his earlier career. He won two Premier League titles and two domestic cups during a five year stay in Manchester, while he’s also earned an impressive 54 caps for his country.
He’s renowned as a reliable and consistent performer, and it’s perhaps this that has seen him ultimately beat out the competition from the likes of Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva and Mamadou Sakho.
We wish James all the best in his new role.
