News broke today that Liverpool have put Lucas Leiva up for sale, with Brendan Rodgers and his coaching staff deciding that the Brazilian’s 6th choice in central midfield and surplus to requirements.
But fans were largely displeased after hearing that Lucas will be sold when Welshman Joe Allen will likely stay at the club.
Lucas is our longest serving player, and probably our only natural anchorman in the squad considering Emre Can has a tendency to drive forward.
We’d have to assume the decision to part with Lucas proves Can will be the primary choice in defensive midfield, unless we go back into the transfer market to secure a direct replacement – with Asier Illarramendi and William Carvalho mooted this morning.
