Neil Warnock shows jaw-dropping stupidity with ridiculous Christian Benteke comments

Former Premier League manager Neil Warnock won’t look back too fondly on a recent conversation with talkSPORT, after suggesting that Christian Benteke could score for Aston Villa against Manchester United on Friday.

Warnock, who has coached Sheffield United, QPR and Crystal Palace in the top flight, has been without a job since December and clearly hasn’t been keeping up with the game this summer – after backing the Belgian to lead the line for Villa in the Midlands later this week.

Benteke has, of course, become a Liverpool player since the end of last season – completing his £32.5m move at the end of last month (via BBC Sport). He made his debut during the pre-season friendly against Swindon Town more than ten days ago, hitting the headlines with a brilliant goal, before making his Premier League bow against Stoke.

However, those two games appear to have passed Warnock by, who confidently told talkSPORT: “The way they are at the moment, I am expected a dour, horrible game with hardly a chance from Man United, with them winning 1-0.

“I do hope Benteke starts to get like he can do,” he added, in quotes taken by the Daily Mirror. “Tim (Sherwood) has worked really hard getting players in and I want to see the place bouncing.”

Oh dear… let’s hope Neil doesn’t end up back in the Premier League any time soon, he might start planning an elaborate move for Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert.
