Ex-Liverpool star hilariously mistaken for former US President on Twitter

Jimmy Carter probably thought his five minutes of fame were behind him. But the 49-year-old, who played five league games for Liverpool back in 1991, hit the headlines again this week after a bizarre mix-up on social media.

Carter, who’s now happily married with two children, was inundated with good wishes regarding his health after his namesake – former US President Jimmy Carter – announced that he had undergone surgery to remove a small mass from his liver.

The former winger, who also played for Millwall, Arsenal and Portsmouth during a 16-year professional career, was even forced to send out a message of his own – reiterating his identity, as the Daily Mirror report.

Carter’s Liverpool career was sadly a short-lived one. He was signed by Kenny Dalglish, but the Scotsman’s resignation that same year eventually resulted in the player moving on after just a handful of appearances.

The best years of his career came at Millwall, where he scored 11 times in 110 league games. He retired from football due to injury in 1999, a year after re-signing for the London club.
