Lucas responds to Liverpool exit questions on Instagram

The questions surrounding the future of Brazilian stalwart Lucas Leiva have plagued us for a week ever since Brendan Rodgers left him out of the squad that beat Stoke last weekend.

And now, ahead of tonight’s clash versus Bournemouth which he’s not expected to feature in, Lucas has taken to Instagram with a message to the fans.

Lucas captioned the clip of him working out, ‘Keep working, believing better days will come soon!’

Inter Milan are being continuously linked with the 28-year-old (via the Mirror), who’s been with us since 2007 and is our longest serving player.

But his post on social media suggests that he’s ready to stay and fight for his place – promising that ‘better days’ will come so long as he keeps on training hard.

Of course, the mentioned ‘better days’ could be at a new club, but we hope that Lucas does indeed stay on beyond the end of this transfer window.

Not only is he loyal and professional, but he’s the only natural anchoring midfielder we have in the squad right now, with German Emre Can preferring a slightly freer controlling role where he can drive forward as well as recycle.
