Christian Benteke’s qualities discussed: Adam Lallana praises ‘predator in the box’

Adam Lallana has lavished praise on teammate Christian Benteke, after the summer signing scored his first competitive goal in a Liverpool shirt to clinch Monday evening’s 1-0 win over newly promoted Bournemouth.

Benteke, who provided an excellent outlet for the Reds up front and was particularly impressive in terms of both his hold up play and his movement, was described as a ‘predator’ after the game by Lallana – who also played the full 90 minutes in our first home game of the new Premier League campaign.

“It was a real poacher’s finish,” said the England man of Benteke’s strike, in quotes taken by the Liverpool Echo.

“It was a great ball in from Hendo and Benteke is a predator in the box. That finish was brilliantly technically – getting good contact on the ball like that.

“He almost got another one at the end when he hit the crossbar. That’s what he’s all about. He’s a big presence up there. He’s great in the air and good with his feet. He brings team-mates into play.”

The former Aston Villa man, who was signed for £32.5m last month (via BBC Sport), has now scored twice in three total appearances for us, his new club, having previously got off the mark with a thunderous strike during our friendly win over Swindon Town.

Benteke, 24, who scored 13 Premier League goals last season but has previously netted 19 during a single season in the top flight, will be hoping to continue that momentum when we take on Arsenal next Monday.
