Mario Balotelli admits he’s wasted chances and says he didn’t fit Rodgers’ style

Mario Balotelli has admitted that he’s on his last chance and has promised to clean up his act, following his return to AC Milan on a season-long loan move from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old, who lasted little more than a year on Merseyside before sealing a return to the San Siro, scored just four goals during his time with us – while his misdemeanours off the field constantly saw him hitting the headlines.

In quotes taken by BBC Sport, the Italian appeared to express regret over the fallout from his Anfield departure, and he insisted that he’s now realised that he can no longer be considered a ‘boy’.

Balotelli now has a year to prove that he’s capable of fulfilling his vast potential, as he looks to reclaim a place in the Italian national team ahead of Euro 2016.

The former Manchester City man is set to make his second debut for the Rossoneri against Serie A rivals Empoli on Saturday and he knows that he’ll have to get off to a good start to quieten his numerous critics.

“I feel like someone who has put the first part of his career to one side. Played and lived like a boy,” he said. “I haven’t forgotten how to play football. I am no longer a kid. I’ve wasted too many chances.”

Asked why things hadn’t worked out for him at Liverpool, he added: “I take my responsibilities, but the system chosen by Rodgers wasn’t suited to my characteristics.”
