Liverpool’s contribution to Balotelli’s AC Milan wages revealed

It turns out our contribution to Mario Balotelli’s wages during his loan spell in Italy is not too drastic.

Of course, we’d prefer to have offloaded the striker permanently, or at least that AC Milan will pay his wages in full – but in reality, we’re paying 20%, around £20k-per-week, as Andy Hunter of the Guardian has confirmed.

‘The Anfield club are also believed to be paying 20% of Balotelli’s wages in Milan, approximately £20,000 a week when the various clauses in his contract are factored in.’

The forward is not expected to return to Anfield on the completion of his loan, and the best we can hope for is that he performs well in Italy and we can get as large a transfer fee as possible for his services next summer.

If he flops and messes up the chance Milan are presenting him, we might be offering him to clubs on temporary deals until his contract expires – so it’s in our best interests for him to play well and – in a sense – prove Liverpool wrong.

The striker’s failings on the pitch are Anfield are well known. Balotelli scored just one Premier League goal, but the reasons why he was consistently left out of the squad altogether are now coming to light – with stories of a fake injury and consistent petulance emerging from James Pearce at the Echo earlier in the week.
