Selecting Liverpool’s all-England XI, as Reds jet off on international break

It’s the international break and we’re all doing our very best to make it through another week without Premier League football – is there anything worse?! So, in the interest of making it through, we’ve constructed this international inspired XI – featuring all of Liverpool’s best Englishmen.

Enjoy!

GK) Ryan Fulton

Long gone are the days of Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland, so now you have to dip into our academy to find our best English goalkeeper. However, Fulton can more than hold his own this team, having travelled with the Reds on our pre-season tour of the Far East and impressed in the Under-21 side.

RB) Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne has already won five caps for England and has a decent chance of being considered the Three Lion’s first choice right-back heading into Euro 2016 next summer. He’ll no doubt be hoping a good season with Liverpool will help him cement that spot.

LB) Jon Flanagan

Flanagan won his one and only England cap back in 2014, having been selected as part of England’s standby squad for the World Cup. Sadly, injuries have completely eliminated his chances of making the squad since then. Hopefully he’ll make it back there one day.

CB) Joe Gomez

The 18-year-old’s exploits so far this season, which have come as a very pleasant surprise following his move from Charlton, have already earned him a call-up to the England Under-21 squad. If he continues that form over the coming months, then he could be squeezing into the first-team picture sometime soon.

CB) Tom Brewitt

He’s still only 18 and is a key member of our Under-21 side. He was previously captain of the U18s team and has experience of playing for England at youth team level. It will be interesting to see how much further he can progress in his later career.

CM) Jordan Henderson

The Liverpool captain has already made 22 appearances for England and surely has a decent chance of one day claiming the armband, as he did from Steven Gerrard at club level. The 25-year-old is arguably the best midfielder England have to offer and he’s likely to be a regular for years to come.

CM) James Milner

Milner made his England debut back in 2009 while he was still an Aston Villa player. He’s gone on to make 54 appearances for his country and scored once – against Moldova in 2012 – as the Three Lions set out on their route to World Cup qualification ahead of the tournament in Brazil.

RM) Jordon Ibe

Still only 19, Ibe recently made his first appearance for the England Under-21 side, playing in a 1-0 victory against USA on Thursday. He’s now played for the Three Lions at four different age groups and is surely due a first-team call up if he continues to progress his game at the rate he has over the last twelve months.

LM) Adam Lallana

Lallana has featured 15 times for England since making his debut in 2013. Unfortunately, his first season with Liverpool was hugely distributed after he picked up an injury in the aftermath of the World Cup – causing him consistent problems over the course of the 2014-15 campaign.

ST) Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge has scored five times in 16 appearances for the Three Lions. If he hadn’t have had so many problems with injuries over the last couple of years then it easily could have been many more. He’ll be hoping to rediscover his scoring form for both club and country in the near future.

ST) Danny Ings

Ings has found the net on four occasions for the England Under-21 side. Having turned 23 this summer, he’s no longer eligible to play for Gareth Southgate’s side and he’ll be hoping that his performances for Liverpool this season will be able to force him into Roy Hodgson’s plans.
