Former Liverpool manager puts ball in Gerrard’s court after mini feud

Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard looked set to enter a serious war of words in the media after comments from both men, but the former Liverpool manager has moved to quash the feud before it really gets going, as reported by the Daily Star.

Gerrard had previously spoken of the relationship between he and Benitez – or rather the lack of one. He believed Benitez didn’t like him, and said so in a very candid interview.

“I don’t think Rafa Benitez liked me as a person. I’m not sure why, but that’s the feeling I got from him,” he said (via the Star).

Now managing Real Madrid, Benitez responded in a big way, accusing our former skipper of only making these comments in order to sell books – with his new book My Story set for release.

“He has brought out a book and now I’m the Real Madrid manager, that sells,” the Spaniard is quoted as saying by the Star.

Benitez has now followed that up by heaping praise on the LA Galaxy star though, and claims he never had anything other than a good relationship with the skipper.

“This is not the time to get into this but he’s a phenomenal player and my relationship with him was good, it can remain so if he so wishes,” he continued.

Both men are still beloved at the club, so we don’t want to see them at each other’s throats.

Hopefully this is the end of their spat, and Gerrard accepts his former manager’s olive branch.
