Christian Benteke’s time on Liverpool sidelines revealed in Guardian report

Christian Benteke will out of action for two weeks following the MRI scan on his hamstring yesterday, the Guardian has claimed.

The £32.5m summer signing was taken off at half-time versus Norwich and replaced by Danny Ings, and until now there’d been no report as to the seriousness of the problem.

In this respect, we can be pleased the 24-year-old’s only unavailable for a fortnight – although the timing of the injury is especially irritating considering Daniel Sturridge has just returned to form a partnership with him.

It means that Benteke will definitely miss tonight’s clash with Carlisle in the League Cup, this weekend’s Premier League game with former club Aston Villa and the Europa League match with FC Sion on October 1st. He could be back for the derby with Everton on the 4th, but in all likelihood we won’t see him again until after the international break on the 17th.

It’s annoying news for Rodgers, but better news for Ings, who’s likely to partner Sturridge up top in our blockbuster summer signing’s absence.
