Rodgers claims he hasn’t spoken to FSG, and promises fans, ‘I love the club’

The clock’s ticking for Brendan Rodgers, who oversaw another miserable result at Anfield last night, with his weakened Liverpool side drawing to FC Sion in the Europa League.

Despite creating countless chances, the Reds could only score once past the opposition, who were no better than Championship level – conceding a poor goal in the process.

Twitter flooded with furious Liverpool fans following FA Sion draw

But despite the 1-1 draw, which meant we’ve only won four of our past 17 matches, Rodgers hasn’t been contacted by his employers about the rut, and is striving to turn it around.

“It’s not something I look for, it’s not something I’m worried about,” said the Liverpool boss, when asked whether he’d been given a vote of confidence by our American owners, reported by the Mirror. “I will always work to make the very best of the situation I’m in with the players I have.

“I’m not looking for any reassurances, I’m not seeking any. I will continue to work with the players.

“I love the club, I enjoy being here and the challenge of improving and developing.

“It’s a long season and we will make progress as the season goes on.”

The quote: “I will always work to make the very best of the situation I’m in with the players I have,” irks us, as it hints that the players available to him are not good enough. A manager in his first season can get away with this, but a boss in his fourth term, having spent hundreds of millions, simply cannot.

The fans are furious, but the manager is taking their criticism, and their loud boos, ‘on the chin’.

“The supporters watched the game last night and to see the number of chances we created, but not to win the game, they are disappointed,” he continued.

“I respect and understand that. They want to win as much as we want to win, so there’s probably a wee bit of frustration there when you don’t win the game.

“That’s something you have to take on the chin as a coach and as players.”

Thursday’s failure will be mostly forgotten of course if we win the far more important clash on Sunday, and Rodgers has bemoaned the fact he has no Scousers to call upon for the Everton clash.

“Maybe this is the first time that we don’t have someone starting in the Merseyside derby from Merseyside, but this is a club which is very much looking for that talent,” he continued…

“Young Jon Flanagan, if he’s fit, he’s playing in the game. It’s just unfortunate that we don’t have one.

“But for me the concern is the team and hoping that any of them can be the star. It doesn’t have to be someone from Merseyside necessarily.”

Barring Daniel Sturridge or Coutinho, we’re struggling to see who that might be.
