Brendan Rodgers sacked as Liverpool manager

Brendan Rodgers has been sacked as manager of Liverpool football club, effective immediately, as reported by the BBC.

In the wake of our 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby, the club released a statement regarding his departure.

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment.

“All of us have experienced some wonderful moments with Brendan as manager and we are confident he will enjoy a long career in the game.

“Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch,” read a club statement (via the BBC).

“The search for a new manager is underway and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”

It seems strange timing for the club to sack Rodgers, as we are just a handful of games into the season, and the Northern Irishman was handed a huge amount of money to spend this past summer – but the performances and results have simply not been good enough.

Hopefully the club has a plan already mapped out, as it would be disastrous if we were unable to secure a top class manager in the wake of Rodgers’ departure.

As the BBC reports, Jurgen Klopp, Carlo Ancelotti, and Frank de Boer have all been linked with the post recently, with Klopp arguably the favourite.

Although many fans had grown tired of Rodgers and will be delighted with this news, it’s important to note that he gave his all for the cause to the best of his ability, and in 2013/14 almost led us to Premier League title glory.

We’ll wish him all the luck in the future.
