Emre Can speaks up Jurgen Klopp as fellow German closes on Liverpool job

German midfielder Emre Can, who will hope his stint as a makeshift defender will be over now Brendan Rodgers has left, has saluted the qualities of replacement frontrunner Jurgen Klopp, his German compatriot.

Can will likely be pleased with the likely new appointment due to his nationality, and the possibility that Klopp will supplement the squad with more Germans.

Rodgers has been using him in central defence, but Can has long claimed his best position to be in central midfield.

“Jurgen Klopp is certainly a great coach,” Can told German newspaper Die Welt, reported in the Mirror.

“I think he has demonstrated in Dortmund that he can work at any team in the world.”

As Can suggests, Klopp’s managerial CV certainly sells itself. With two Bundesliga titles, a German Cup and a Champions League runner-ups medal, he’s got far better better pedigree than the man he’s set to replace, but has of course never worked outside of Germany.

Due to his grasp of the English language though, Klopp says that England is his only viable alternative to the Bundesliga.

“I think that apart from Germany, England is the only other country where I should work,” Klopp said.

“Simply because I know a little of the language and I need the language for my work.”

BBC Sport reckon Klopp will be in the hot seat by Friday, giving him a full week before his first match versus Tottenham at White Hart Lane on October 17th.
