Explaining the mistaken Jurgen Klopp sighting at the Liverpool Audi garage

Liverpool fans began to lose their marbles on Wednesday, when an  apparent image of Jurgen Klopp buying an Audi started to circle the internet.

And while the German is expected to sign a three year deal to replace Brendan Rodgers as our manager by the end of the week (via BBC Sport), the man in the car was NOT Klopp!

According to the Echo, it was in fact a salesman at Audi Liverpool called John Vena – who was staging a prank due to the fact he looks like Borussia Dortmund’s former boss.

“I’ve had people calling me Klopp for ages now. I’ve had lads come up to me in town in bars for months getting their photographs taken with me.

“Here’s what happened originally, Phil Thompson comes in to get his car serviced sometimes, I don’t think he even knows my real name so he shouts “Jurgen!” across the showroom and says we should get a photo, it would send the rumour mill through the roof.

“I’ve had loads about looking like Jurgen Klopp for months so yesterday was just an opportunity. We had a car outside and one of the lads said come on, so we took a few photos and it’s just gone nuts ever since.

“I was sitting with my girlfriend last night crying with laughter as my phone was going ballistic.

“It made The Metro, The Independent and it’s on the BBC gossip page this morning! It’s just been hilarious, my phone has not stopped ringing.”

As if we didn’t already know, Vena reckons Klopp would be an outstanding appointment, too…

“It’s good news, we’ve been saying for months he’s the man for the job, plus it gives me an opportunity to do a Kloppalike!

“It would be like me an our kid wouldn’t it? He’s 48 and I’m 44. I’m his better looking, younger brother!”

Klopp is expected to sign a contract tonight, while the BBC report also claims that he’ll be unveiled tomorrow after flying into Merseyside.

The celebrations are going to be enormous, with the Kopp coup arguably the most exciting in our Premier League history in terms of managerial appointments.

If he can reinvigorate the team the way the rumours of his arrival have already reinvigorated a fan base, we could have a great season yet.
