Back Klopp to turn Liverpool back into trophy contenders

Posted by

Jurgen Klopp made headlines in his first Liverpool press conference, labelling himself ‘the normal one’, but it is clear when looking at the 48 year olds CV that there is nothing ordinary about the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

After a successful seven year spell with Mainz 05, Jurgen claimed two Bundesliga trophies and one DFB Pokal title with Dortmund, single-handedly turning BVB from a mid-table side, to genuine title challengers.

Klopp will look to have exactly the same effect on Liverpool. The question on everyone’s lips is whether he can work his magic and win the Premier League title. Hitting a jackpot like this would be similar to those pokies jackpots at PokiesPalace.

The Reds’ slow start to the season sees them sit smack bang in the middle of the table, with just three wins from eight games. Whilst the Premier League title may be a long shot this season, Jurgen can inspire his side to a fourth placed finish.

His first priority will be the defence.

Liverpool have shipped 10 goals already this campaign, which is more than all of the other teams who currently occupy automatic Champions League qualification positions. If Jurgen can strengthen in this department then the German will look to enforce his notorious intense pressing tactics that have served him so well in the past.

To do this, his ability to nurse Daniel Sturridge back to full health, and integrate playmaker, Coutinho into the thick of the action will prove critical.

Whilst Klopp certainly has a lot on his plate, the Reds’ price of 5/2 for a top four finish looks a fantastic bet.

Despite the sluggish start to the season, Liverpool still have genuine shots at silverware, and are priced at 12/1 for FA Cup success, and 10/1 for the League cup crown. It is the Europa League, however, which may represent their best chance at a title.

Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund, are the favourites at 7/1, but Liverpool’s odds of 17/1 makes them look massively overpriced, and a much better bet.

In recent seasons Liverpool have showed consistency in the competition, reaching the knockout stages in consecutive years, and they now have a manager who is an expert in different styles of football. With Klopp keen to see a return to famous European nights at Anfield, the five times champions of Europe should be backed to lift the title.
