Adam Lallana ‘disappointed’ at Rodgers’ exit, but ‘excited’ for Klopp

The buzz around Liverpool is enormous at the moment due to the appointment of Jurgen Klopp, and while the German’s taking his first official training session today, he won’t be working with many of our best players who are still out on international duty.

Adam Lallana is one of those, with the English playmaker potentially involved versus Lithuania this evening for Roy Hodgson’s unbeaten Three Lions.

But upon his return to Melwood, Lallana can’t wait to implement himself into Klopp’s plans.

“I am excited, very excited, to work with the new manager,” Lallana told Sky Sports.

“I saw the press conference and, like everyone at the press conference and the reaction he is getting, it is going to be exciting.

“I have obviously got one more game with England and I am fully focused on it, but I am excited to get back to the club afterwards.”

Lallana arrived at the club in summer 2014 for a monstrous £26m fee, with departed manager Rodgers a huge fan of his abilities. As a result, Lallana has admitted to being upset by the firing, but recognises that it can only be expected in football when results are poor.

“I am working really hard to keep fit because I feel if I stay fit, then the club will see the best of me,” he continued.

“It was obviously disappointing to see Brendan go and our indifferent start, but change happens in football.”

Lallana would choose to play as a central no.10, but with Coutinho and a soon to return Roberto Firmino likely above him in the pecking order for this pivotal position, it’ll be interesting to see how Klopp deploys the 27-year-old.

The midfielder is talented and possesses the technical ability Klopp will value, which will hopefully see him become an important option for the new boss.
