Sobering Night For Reds

Jurgen Klopp’s first game at Anfield since taking over as manager at Liverpool didn’t go according to plan as an enthusiastic home support welcomed their new manager to Anfield.

An expectant crowd was anticipating a win for their team against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League but the Russians looked a real threat in the early stages and took the lead in the 15th minute but the game changed in Liverpool’s favour when Rubin were reduced to 10 men when Kuzmin was sent off for a second booking, and the Reds equalised from the resulting free-kick when Can scored from close range.

The stage was now set for Klopp’s first win in charge of Liverpool with his side having almost an hour to find a winner against 10 men, but it wasn’t to be as he watched his side huff and puff with no reward.

Similar to last Saturday’s draw at Spurs Liverpool showed a new found energy and commitment but the same problems witnessed during Rodgers’ final weeks in charge were there for all to see.

Liverpool still looked vulnerable in defence when the Russians attacked and they lack ideas and quality to break down teams that sit deep and defend.

With players like Can, Milner, Lallana and Coutinho you would think that Liverpool shouldn’t have such problems opening up defences but it has been a regular theme in recent months.

Rubin Kazan are not a great side but they proved difficult opposition to Liverpool but the reality is that Klopp has a difficult job on his hands and much to improve on if Liverpool are to be successful again.

For all the effort shown the Liverpool players don’t look confident in possession and Klopp needs to get the confidence back quick because it has all been lost working under Brendan Rodgers.

But although it was a disappointing result for Liverpool the reaction at the end of the game was totally different from when Rodgers was in charge.
