Liverpool predicted XI v Southampton: Benteke back to start up top

Here’s the side we reckon will start against Southampton this afternoon…

GK) Simon Mignolet

Mignolet’s playing well right now, making difficult saves look easy despite a shaky start to the campaign. Let’s hope he keeps it up.

DR) Nathaniel Clyne

The same back four will surely play again, having conceded just once in Klopp’s opening two outings.

DL) Alberto Moreno

Impressive again midweek, Moreno is our only viable option at left-back, and enforcements may be a necessity in January.

DC) Martin Skrtel

Poor versus Rubin, Skrtel needs to step up or he may find his starting spot at risk with Dejan Lovren yet to play under Klopp.

DC) Mamadou Sakho

Another excellent performance midweek for Sakho who’s been faultless since Klopp arrived. You’d think he was the skipper if you didn’t see the armband round James Milner.

MC) Lucas

Surely will be brought back for Joe Allen, who was subbed after 45 minutes against the Russians.

MC) Emre Can

Bagged on Thursday and expected to start in the middle again. In Jordan Henderson’s absence, we need to him to drive forward and provide the playmakers onrushing support.

MC) James Milner

Like Coutinho, Milner’s a seemingly automatic selection, but he needs to step it up creatively.

AMC) Coutinho

Coutinho will be fresh having played just the hour versus Rubin, but badly needs to show us why he’s thought of by many as our best player. His one goal and two assists so far is not reflective of his actual ability.

AMC) Adam Lallana

Roberto Firmino’s an option having appeared on Thursday, but Lallana deserves his spot against his former side on his showing versus Kazan.

FC) Christian Benteke

He’s fit, and with Daniel Sturridge seemingly incapable of getting himself ready to compete, Klopp has little choice but to go with the Belgian with Divock Origi playing so poorly.
