Jurgen Klopp explains Liverpool’s problem

Liverpool’s new manager Jurgen Klopp is still searching for his first victory, as a late Sadio Mane equaliser saw Christian Benteke’s opener cancelled out during yesterday’s home draw with Southampton.

And Klopp believes there’s an underlying confidence issue with the squad, who’ve now unbelievably drawn eight of their past nine matches in all competitions.

“We didn’t believe we could turn this game, switch this game. That’s a problem,” the German 48-year-old said after the game, reported in the Mirror.

“That’s why we are not calm enough in the moments when we need to change the game when we have the last pass and so on.”

“I don’t understand this pressure in this moment, but the guys feel it. That’s the thing. They work so hard, they are full of concentration, everything is there.”

A win would have been a real boost for the new boss and his players, but sadly, it wasn’t to be. The draw leaves us in ninth position in the table, but surprisingly, we’re only six points off the top four, and eight off leaders Manchester City – which considering how poorly we’ve played all season – is promising.

Klopp has a League Cup tie with Bournemouth to consider on Wednesday, before we face the daunting task of an away trip to Chelsea next weekend. There are reports that Jose Mourinho could be sacked if his out of form side fall to another defeat (via the Guardian), and it’d be fantastic to pile more pressure on the increasingly paranoid Portuguese – who’s mostly had the better of us in various games against Liverpool.
