Klopp Wins After Brave Team Selection

Jurgen Klopp won his first game in charge of Liverpool after seeing his new team beat Bournemouth 1-0 in the Capital One Cup at Anfield thanks to a 17th minute Nathaniel Clyne goal.

The win for Liverpool is a much needed one after drawing 8 of their last 9 games and hopefully this will be the platform for Klopp’s side to build on.

With so many injuries to key players Klopp has not had many options to rotate his squad since arriving at Anfield but he made a brave team selection on Wednesday night for the visit of Bournemouth when he made 9 changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Southampton last Sunday.

Joao Teixera was one of the youngsters given a chance to shine and it was his audacious backheel that led to Clyne’s goal and the youngster was probably the one that caught the eye on the night along with big money signing Firmino and Jordon Ibe.

Connor Randall and Cameron Brannagan were given unexpected first team opportunities along with Teixeira and they didn’t let their manager down as the Reds made it through to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup where they will now face Southampton away from home.

With a win so badly needed for Klopp and Liverpool it was a brave decision to make so many changes for the cup-tie but after a playing so many games recently with a near-unchanged team he had to give some of his regulars a rest.

The win was a narrow one and thanks must also go to back-up keeper Adam Bogdan who made some key saves to earn the win.

Apart from the win, good performances from Teixeira, Ibe and Firmino would please Klopp and they should now be pushing for regular first team action.

Now Liverpool play Chelsea on Saturday with the confidence of winning a game under their belt and that could prove crucial.
