Jurgen Klopp criticises Liverpool fans following yesterday’s defeat

Jurgen Klopp fell to his first Liverpool defeat at Anfield on Sunday, with his side losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace.

And the new manager was disappointed with the supporters, claiming they made him feel ‘alone’ by leaving the stadium early, the Echo reports.

Coutinho had equalised after the visitors took an early lead, but when we were pushing for a winner, Scott Dan fired in to leave the crowd stunned.

“The goal came after 82 minutes. Twelve minutes to go (eight plus stoppage time), and I saw many people leaving the stadium. I turn around and saw them go. I felt pretty alone at this moment!

“We decide when it’s over. Between 82 and 94 minutes, you can make eight goals if you want! But you have to work for it.

“The big decisions are made in moments when you are tired and under stress, and we have to learn that.

“It feels so bad, because it was absolutely not necessary. We have to feel this, keep this, and know why we don’t want to feel this again.

“Look, I say what I think, please don’t make it bigger than it is.

“I’m not disappointed. Maybe it’s easier to leave the stadium with 10 minutes to play. There are reasons.

“But we are responsible, we have to make sure that nobody can leave the stadium a minute before the last whistle, because anything can happen. That’s what we have to show. Today, we didn’t.

“I don’t want to argue. Everything is ok, but we can do better. Tonight and in general.”

Klopp’s comments naturally got Liverpool fans talking, with the great majority agreeing with the German that fans should stay and support their side until the final whistle.

It’s surely integral that we maximise home advantage with a noisy, supportive Anfield crowd, and clearly Klopp feels we didn’t give him that at the weekend.

We now have a two break to contemplate the comments due to the international break. When it’s over we face Manchester City at the Etihad – having been much more impressive on the road so far under Klopp.
