Nonsense transfer rumour of the day: ‘Klopp given money to sign Lewandowski’

Posted by

Instead of writing and analysing transfer rumours published outside of either of the windows, here at EOTK we’re going to choose the most ridiculous each day, and do our best to tear it to shreds! (Unless there’s a specific manager/player/agent quote which proves a story wasn’t conjured from thin air…)

This way we aren’t contributing to the transfer tosh that plagues football journalism – but highlighting it.

Today, we cannot ignore German newspaper Bild’s claim that Robert Lewandowski will sign for Jurgen Klopp’s new club – basically because they’re mates and Klopp thinks he’s good at football. If only transfers were that simple, Bild… They even claim that our new boss has been armed with the funds to complete a deal.

Quite how they know exactly what cash is in the Liverpool coffers, and exactly what the world’s most inform centre-forward would cost is questionable…

What’s more, they already published this ‘news’ one month ago when Klopp joined. Both player and manager rubbished it back then, but their quotes have conveniently not been included in any story.

This season Lewandowski, playing for the perennial Bundesliga champions and Pep Guardiola’s Champions League contenders, has plundered 19 goals. He’s also contracted until 2019.

Still, Bild reckon he’ll be off to Liverpool in either January or next summer! Great news, Reds!

If you fancy a more in-depth read how some of our own tabloids invent transfer rumours – check this out from the summer!
