Carlo Ancelotti admits he would’ve taken Liverpool job and names our best players

Legendary Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti has shown that the Liverpool job is one of the most sought after in world football by admitting he would have taken it if we offered to him, the Echo reports.

We did not, of course, and instead appointed former Borussia Dortmund title winner Jurgen Klopp – who’s won three, drawn three and lost one of his seven matches so far.

But Ancelotti, who’s also been heavily linked with a return to Chelsea in the Independent, has proved his professionalism by claiming we made the right appointment – and explained just why Klopp will do such a good job here.

“I would like to come back to work in England. I love the football here, I still have a house in London, and I would like to be with a team that is competitive in England and in Europe,” he began.

“I think Liverpool are a good team. They have some really good young players — Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke. If they can find an experienced player like Gerrard or Carragher — an example to the squad — I think they can be really competitive.

“But I did not speak with them. If I spoke with them I say “yes”, but no, I did not.

“They made the right appointment in Klopp. He is a good manager. With the best managers you see their identity in their team. Klopp’s Dortmund team had a very strong identity.”

Ancelotti’s comments regarding both Klopp and the team seem spot on. While we do have a plethora of young and talented players, we’re missing a true leader. An established world-class player. Our captain Jordan Henderson is only 25-years-old for example.

Perhaps this is something the new boss will rectify in coming transfer windows, as he looks to compete with the Premier League’s (and eventually Europe’s) finest.
