Last week we highlighted that he claimed Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea would be ‘their easiest’ fixture of the month – which drew a fabulous reaction from legendary Phil Thompson. We beat Jose Mourinho’s men 3-1 at Stamford Bridge of course, but he’s still decided to publicise his bizarre opinions once more – on reputable service Sky Sports, his employers. Why do they continue giving him the time of day?
This time, he’s suggested that neither Liverpool nor Manchester United will finish in the Top Four, and instead Chelsea and Spurs will pip them to the post.

Explaining why Chelsea, currently 16th in the table, will rise again, Merson wrote: ‘If Chelsea play like they did against Stoke, they’ll win a lot of football matches.’
Chelsea lost that match 1-0.
We can’t cope any more! But we really hope Jurgen Klopp’s boys can make a fool out of him once again. We should be delighted Merson’s bet against us, in truth!
