No Liverpool transfer deal in place for Alexandre Pato

Brazilian side Corinthians have dismissed speculation that we have reached a deal to sign former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato.

There was speculation over the weekend that we had beaten several top European sides to his signature, but ESPN are now reporting that Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade has refuted the reports.

De Andrade told Globo Esporte (a major Brazilian TV network) Liverpool had not approached his club, later adding that “Corinthians have received nothing. Nothing concrete has arrived”.

“I still think Pato is a great player” he continued. “I am still certain that we will negotiate a deal for the player on the European market”.

We badly need another striker; Sturridge is perennially injured, Ings is out for the majority of the season, Balotelli is out on loan, and question marks hover over how the so-far impressive Benteke will fit into Klopp’s system long-term.

Pato’s Brazilian roots should allow him to quickly forge an understanding with Coutinho and Firmino, though there are question marks over his ability to stay fit – the last thing we need is another crock.
