Italian reports say Liverpool want excellent but injury-prone striker for £18m

Could Liverpool fans really deal with another incredibly talented but perpetually injured centre-forward…?

Is Daniel Sturridge not enough!?

Today, Italian publication ItaSportPress, a sister outlet of the more renowned Gazzetta dello Sport, claim that Liverpool could spend £18m for Giuseppe Rossi in January.

They reckon that Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi is the big target for next summer, but that Rossi is available because he’s out of favour at currently club Fiorentina.

Three debilitating knee injuries have reduced the 28-year-old Italian to a measly 30 Serie A appearances since the start of the 2012/13 season. When you consider Sturridge has made 61 Premier League appearances in this time, you realise just how crocked the former Manchester United forward is.

In fact, he can’t get in the Fiorentina side right now, and despite the fact he’s lethal when fit, we really can’t see this happening.

FSG have only spent big money on younger players, and Rossi is out of form, out of touch, bereft of fitness and approaching his thirties.

After all, Jurgen Klopp plays only one centre-forward, and has got Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and currently injured Danny Ings to eventually choose from.

What’s more, our record with Italians is dreadful. Mario Balotelli, Alberto Aquilani, Andrea Dossena and Fabio Borini have all tried but fail miserably at Anfield.
