Dejan Lovren nominated for Premier League Player of the Month

Not many Liverpool fans would have expected to read this headline this season.

And this isn’t an outdated piece regurgitated from his Southampton days either, it’s news that Dejan Lovren, of Liverpool, has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for November!

Our centre-back is up for the monthly gong against Jamie Vardy, Troy Deeney, Ross Barkley, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.

League sponsors Barclays announced the news via their Twitter Page.

Lovren couldn’t get into Jurgen Klopp’s side originally, due to the wonderful form of Mamadou Sakho alongside Martin Skrtel at the heart of defence. But when the Frenchman twisted his knee in the home defeat to Crystal Palace, the much maligned Croat got his chance – and in fairness – he hasn’t put a foot wrong.

Lovren’s played in the victory over Manchester City and the home win over Swansea as well – while his performances in the League Cup and Europa League shouldn’t have been taken into account.

But his outings in those two wins were enough to see him nominated, so we’re not complaining!

Hopefully it will give the 26-year-old a significant confidence boost. Lovren struggles when he’s lacking belief and support, so this should do him wonders. It’ll be interesting to see what Klopp decides to do with the defence upon Sakho’s return.
