Brazil legend says Liverpool ace can be ‘best player in the world’

Coutinho has received tonnes of deserved, gargantuan praise over the past 18 months, but this compliment from former team-mate Lucio is perhaps the biggest of them all.

The former centre-back who starred for Bayer Leverkusen, Inter Milan and the Brazilian national team, played with Coutinho in Serie A, and reckons our playmaker can reach football’s highest echelons.

“I am very happy that he is having success at Liverpool,” the 105 cap defender told Sky Sports.

“There is potential to be the best player in the world, of that there is no doubt, but it will depend on what happens around him. He is only going to get better.”

Our no.10 and best player made his first Premier League start since he injured his hamstring against Manchester City, and immediately revitalised our attack.

He was involved in Jordan Henderson’s opener and missed a guilt-edged chance to give us a lead with a half volley. As per usual though, Coutinho found the pockets of space from which he can torment defences, and it’s great to see him back fit.

Since Jurgen Klopp took charge, Coutinho has scored four and assisted one, and we’ll need to him continue contributing to both these tallies due to our striking difficulties. We battered West Brom yesterday in terms of possession and chances but left with only one point because we’re not clinical enough.

It’s Watford away next, and following three matches without a win, Coutinho and co. will be desperate to get back on winning ways before the intense festive period.
