Klopp replies to Allardyce’s ‘Soft German’ comment & discusses West Ham job offer

Jurgen Klopp spoke to the press today ahead of Liverpool’s match with West Ham on January 2nd, with his side having beaten Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last night.

The 1-0 victory was crucial, but feisty – and Klopp was involved in a touchline altercation with Sam Allardyce towards the end of the match when Jeremaine Lens put in a nasty tackle on Mamadou Sakho.

Rightly, our manager believed it warranted a red, and let the Sunderland boss know as much on the sidelines. Allardyce though labelled Klopp a ‘Soft German’ for his comments, in typically xenophobic style.

“It’s not a problem,” Klopp chose to respond today.

“A lot of people have said worse things about me. It’s not the first time.

“If you see the situation again then you know that I was not too wrong.

“So Mama is alive and everything is OK. That’s all I want to say. But I had no arguments with the bench at Sunderland.”

In December, Klopp’s now been involved with bust-ups with both Tony Pulis and Allardyce and is certainly making his Premier League presence known!

Interestingly, our manager was then asked about our next opponents, after West Ham owner David Sullivan recently claimed he approached him in the summer before appointing Slaven Bilic.

Klopp says he turned them down because he simply ‘wasn’t available,’ although we think had West Ham approached him when we did in October, he still would’ve turned them down!

“In the summer, I was not available. I’m sure I should say not too much about this,” Klopp said.

“I’m lucky I had a lot of interest. West Ham is a good club but it was the wrong time, like all the clubs who approached me.

“Everything is OK. The Hammers. More my second name than ‘soft’.”

The Hammers will be a seriously tough test in two days’ time.

They have Dimitri Payet returning from injury, while Winston Reid and Victor Moses are also in contention to start at the weekend, confirms Sky Sports.

Bilic’s men are one point behind us currently in 7th, but with a tricky trip to Stoke and then matches with Arsenal and Manchester Unite coming up next – it’s crucial we carry on our recent good run.
