Done deal: Liverpool sign Marko Grujic for £5.1m

Posted by

Liverpool have announced the signing of Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic, confirms the official website.

The 19-year-old is the first signing of the Jurgen Klopp era, but won’t represent the German until the 2016/17 season at the earliest – with Liverpool agreeing to loan the teenager back to his parent club for the remainder of the campaign.

Grujic has shone for Red Star this term, with the Serbian’s romping to a domestic title. Our new signing has bagged five goals and alerted the attention of European clubs as a result.

The Echo claim that Inter Milan were the initial frontrunners, but Klopp’s direct intervention saw Grujic pine for an Anfield move – despite Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow making late bids for his services.

Grujic won the Under-20 World Cup with Serbia back in June and was one of the standout players of the competition.

His talent is huge, and hopefully will arrive on Merseyside ready to go next summer.
