Klopp says our best young talent will no longer be sent out on loan

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, manager Jurgen Klopp has vowed to overhaul the way we develop our best young talent.

Speaking ahead of our FA Cup third round tie against Exeter City on Friday night, Klopp said “In my opinion the best talents should be at their own club so they can play together for the under-21s and develop as a team, so you always have them around you”.

His comments come at the end of a week in which centre back Tiago Ilori, winger Ryan Kent, and forward Sheyi Ojo were all recalled from loan spells at Aston Villa, Coventry, and Wolves respectively.

“It is important we take our own players back like with Kent, Ojo and Tiago”, said the German.

“That’s how I think it should be. Now we take them back and it’s a big chance for the boys. Offensive wingers and a centre-half are interesting for us in this moment”.

“The loan system is something we need to look at in the summer – the best talents should be in their club so they can develop”.

All three are expected to start against the League Two outfit in the cup – and given the injury crisis across the club at the moment, strong performances could feasibly lead to them being involved with the first team in upcoming league games.

Despite the recalls, we still have eleven players out on loan, including troublesome striker Mario Balotelli, promising winger Lazar Markovic, and academy prospects such as Sergi Canos, Lawrence Vigouroux, and Jordan Williams.

Is Klopp right to question how we use the loan system, or do you think youngsters are better served by getting first team minutes at a lower level? Let us know in the comments.
