Liverpool fans are pretty excited about the prospect of landing Joel Matip on a free transfer!
A report in The Mirror this morning – from very credible journalist David Maddock – claimed that we had agreed to sign the centre-back when his contract with Schalke 04 expires at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Cameroonian international seems to tick all the boxes. He is young and should improve, Jurgen Klopp will know him well from his time in the Bundesliga, and, most of all, he’s a fit defender!
The only downside is that we can’t have him now. Still, this represents some really shrewd business.
It would be fair to say there was more enthusiasm on Twitter over Matip potentially joining than there was after the Steven Caulker announcement yesterday. Here are a selection of the best tweets:

Matip: Pace, strength, aerial dominance, aggressive & good on the ball. His defensive numbers very good this year. Will be our best CB #LFC
