Liverpool agree Bosman deal for Joel Matip to sign in the summer

Steven Caulker yesterday, Joel Matip today!

According to genuine reports by Dave Maddock in the Mirror, (he’s a real journalist, not someone who copy and pastes from bogus sources), Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle for the Schalke centre-back Joel Matip.

The Cameroonian has rejected the Bundelisga club’s extension offer and will sign for Jurgen Klopp’s outfit in the summer – with the German boss being a huge fan of the 24-year-old from his time at Borussia Dortmund.

Schalke were keen on keeping Matip, but the defender with 27 caps to his name wanted a new challenge.

Matip stands at 6 ft. 4′, is physically awesome and provides a serious aerial presence during defensive and offensive set plays. In fact, he’s scored a very impressive 22 goals for the Germans since making his debut in 2009.

Due to his age he also has years to improve, as centre-backs probably don’t peak until their late twenties – so on a Bosman – this deal makes total sense.

To acquire a player of Matip’s ability for free is a fantastic coup for Liverpool, and we look forward to seeing the African join up with his new squad in the summer.
