Liverpool midfielder has had zero contact from club despite having just 18 months left on deal

While news broke yesterday that Simon Mignolet has signed and sealed a new five year Liverpool contract, Paul Joyce of the Express confirmed that Joe Allen has not yet been spoken to – despite having just 18 months left to run on his deal.

The Welshman arrived at the club for £15m in 2012 when Brendan Rodgers took the helm, but has not got close to living up to his price-tag.

Still, he’s proved a handy squad player in recent weeks, performing excellently against Stoke in the League Cup and coming off the bench to bag a late equaliser at home to Arsenal.

Most fans would agree that while Allen shouldn’t be considered a long-term starter, he can still certainly do a job as a rotation midfielder – and has just as much to offer the club as Mignolet.

Joyce also states that Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter and Jerome Sinclair are out of contract in the summer and have yet to agree extensions.

A separate report in the Daily Star though claims Liverpool have rejected an approach from Swansea for Allen, which if true, would intimate that we’re surely planning on keeping him at the club.
