Sturridge suffers another ‘break’ in training schedule, Klopp confirms

The next time a reporter asks Jurgen Klopp about Daniel Sturridge’s prospective comeback, we think the German will get down from the table and leave!

But as it always is, the question was posed again today – and Klopp, sadly, gave the same answer – intimating that Sturridge might have picked up another niggle.

“No. No chance for Daniel,” Klopp told the pre-match presser for the Exeter clash.

“He has had a break in training because of some issues. He’s now back training but losing time. But no team training since Newcastle. I don’t know how long it is. This isn’t [sic] not a situation we can think about him.”

The striker threatened to return at the start of December, scoring a wonderful brace versus Southampton in the League Cup, but his comeback was only to last 28 minutes longer following that game.

He came off the bench against Newcastle in the Premier League on the 6th of that month but hasn’t been seen since – all the more painful considering Liverpool’s goalscoring woes.

In his place, Roberto Firmino is now starting as a centre-forward, but his finishing is not anywhere near the level of Sturridge’s, while the other healthy option Christian Benteke doesn’t suit our style.

Still, despite Sturridge’s injuries, Klopp hasn’t chosen to enter the transfer market this January to bolster his options.

During the past season and a half, Luis Suarez has bagged 54 goals for Barcelona. Sturridge has scored just the nine for us because he simply cannot get healthy. Our problems have been analysed tenfold, but it’s so obvious where they really lie.
