Klopp bemoans his awful Liverpool defence: ‘Biggest rubbish ever’

Jurgen Klopp pulled no punches after Liverpool’s 5-4 victory over Norwich City today at Carrow Road.

Despite the brilliance of the comeback, and the emotional scenes at the game’s end – some of the defending was truly abysmal.

We failed to clear our lines from a corner on Norwich’s first, we didn’t track runners and Simon Mignolet should’ve saved the second, Alberto Moreno gave away a ridiculous penalty for the third, and Mamadou Sakho missed a header for the fourth.

And the manager again spoke about set-plays and our apparent inability to properly defend them, although he did so with a smile on his face – and if you watch the clip via the BBC you’ll see these quotes look harsher on paper.

“Conceding four goals after set plays is the biggest rubbish ever. It’s too easy for the other team,” he said, reported here by the BBC.

“I mean, it’s not hard to play against us. You just throw the ball over the line on a set play and something will happen.”

Liverpool now have two home Cup fixtures against Stoke in the League Cup and West Ham in the FA Cup, and we expect Klopp to save his best players for the Premier League tie with Leicester City on February 2nd.

This means Joe Allen might come in to midfield, and Steven Caulker might get a first start at centre-back, having so far only been used off the bench.
