Adam Lallana gives assist to medical team after settling Norwich thriller

Adam Lallana was in the right place at the right time to be Liverpool’s hero and settle yesterday’s nine-goal thriller with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The England midfielder came off the bench to score the winner in our 5-4 victory deep into stoppage time, minutes after the Canaries had equalised.

But Lallana has revealed that it might not have gone down like that had it not been for our medical team, which has been overworked in recent months.

The 27-year-old thinks that their gamble on his fitness – rather than saving him for Tuesday’s Capital One Cup second leg – “possibly won us the match”.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “I had a bit of a knock after the Manchester United game.

“Not just credit to the manager, but credit to the medical team as well. They could easily have said to stay at Melwood and recover for Tuesday, especially with the amount of injuries we’ve got at the minute.

“Sometimes in football the risks pay off; plenty don’t, but plenty do. I think that risk possibly won us the game.”

The goal was Lallana’s first in the Premier League this season but was worth waiting for. Hopefully the significance of it will encourage him to kick on.
