Under-21s win again as competition hots up for a West Ham starting berth

Jurgen Klopp is widely expected to field another inexperienced side against West Ham in the FA Cup fourth round at the weekend.

It presumably won’t be on the same level as the first Exeter game, but there are certain to be quite a lot of U21 players involved in the match-day squad.

With our ongoing injury issues, along with a potential place in the League Cup final on offer tomorrow, with other side’s poor league form meaning we are still in the top four hunt, and with a favourable Europa League draw, Klopp (understandably) seems to have decided the FA Cup is a step too far this term.

The race is on, therefore, for the young guns to try and bag themselves a place in the first team at the weekend.

They beat Spurs 2-0 on Monday night, a result that means they haven’t lost since going down 3-1 to Everton on 6th December. (via Echo).

Ryan Kent and Jerome Sinclair grabbed the goals, and Adam Bogdan, Steven Caulker (who is cup-tied against Stoke), and Jose Enrique all started the match.

The only sour point came in the 79th minute, as Kevin Stewart picked up two yellows in a three minutes and was sent off against his former club.

Liverpool team: Adam Bogdan, Matthew Virtue-Thick, Sam Hart, Steven Caulker, Jose Enrique, Kevin Stewart, Sheyi Ojo (90 Wilson), Pedro Chirivella, Jerome Sinclair (74 Dunn), Cameron Brannagan, Ryan Kent (84 O’Hanlon).
