Danny Ings takes a big step forward in fitness battle

Danny Ings is reportedly set to start training outside again on Tuesday in a move that marks a big step forward in his battle to overcome an ACL injury.

The ex-Burnley forward was sidelined just days after Klopp took control of the club, but it was always hoped that we might see him back in the first team before the end of the season.

According to the Echo, he will finally be able to move from the gym to “light” training outside after being given the all clear by our medical staff.

Klopp spoke about his situation to the media:

“I had lunch with Ingsy a few minutes ago,” he said.

“He’s not in the perfect way, but Tuesday will be his first time outside again. He’s still a long way away from being available but he’s here.”

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Ings – it happened in his first training session under Klopp, two days after his England debut, and just as he was starting to find some goalscoring form.

How different would our season have been if we’d had the 23-year-old available throughout?

Let’s hope he can get back in the side at the end of the season and make a late charge for a place in England’s Euros squad.
