James Milner closing in on Premier League goal-scoring record

“James Milner” and “goal-scoring record” are not two phrases that you’ll see together very often – but nonetheless the midfielder is closing in on a record.

The 30-year-old has now not lost in forty consecutive games in which he has scored – a run that goes all the way back to his first ever goal against Sunderland for Leeds United on Boxing Day in 2002 (via Echo).

Liverpool are his fifth career team, having also played for Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Man City, and his run still keeps going.

He came closest to losing it in 2007 against Man Utd, but a 75th minute David Edgar goal kept the record alive.

The Premier League record holder is Darius Vassell, who went 46 games without losing.

However, all that fades into insignificance when compared with the all-time record holder – none other than Liverpool legend Ian Rush.

The Welshman went on a stunning 145 game streak in the 1980s, with the run eventually being ended in a League Cup final defeat to Arsenal in 1987.
