Klopp wants Europa League glory

Our boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted our best chance of getting into next season’s Champions League is to win the Europa League, and he says he will put all his effort into trying to make it a reality (via Echo).

“We are in the last 32 and we can see the line,” Klopp said.

“How many points in the league are we away from the Champions League? I think it is nine. So, yeah, at this moment I would say we have a better chance this way at the moment.”

We are indeed nine points behind fourth placed Man City, and face Augsberg on Thursday in the last-32 of the Europa League.

“For sure the Europa League is not the shortest way to get to the Champions League. It’s a really hard way and not the normal road,” he continued.

“But the chance to qualify for the Champions League makes it more interesting. Ask Sevilla who would have qualified many times if the rule was in place.”

Winning it all clearly remains a big ask. We haven’t got past the last-32 in five years, having fallen to Zenit St Petersburg and Besiktas as this stage in two of the last three years.

It is vital we get a result on Thursday. Although we have a week long rest between the two legs, we have the League Cup final straight after the second leg. It would be great, therefore, if we have enough of a cushion to rest a few players.

Can we win it all? Let us know in the comments.
