Flanno: “The fans and my mental strength got me through injury hell”

Jon Flanagan has been speaking to the official site about his time out injury, claiming that the fans and his own mental fortitude got him through the nightmare.

The local lad spent more than 18 months in the treatment room, before eventually making his return as a second half sub against Exeter in the FA Cup replay at Anfield.

He received a rapturous reception upon entering the pitch, and the 23 year old says it was their support that got him through the darkest days.

“It has been difficult and tough mentally, but I am mentally strong – I think that’s what has got me through it,” he said.

“I always knew since I had the injury, I’d come out of it and get better and stronger.

“Knowing the fans are all there cheering you on gives you a massive lift, to know the fans are there supporting you and wanting you to do well.”

Flanno also used the interview to praise Jurgen Klopp:

“He’s brilliant, he’s full-throttle. He’s a genuine guy and his training is great each day,” he said.

“He has got a great sense of humour, as have the two [assistants, Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz] he has brought with him. It’s great for all of us to have a laugh but when it’s serious, it’s serious.”

The full-back was left out of Klopp’s amended European squad in January, so assuming we can get past Augsburg on Thursday we might see him get some league minutes as Clyne and Moreno are rested.
