Juventus target Liverpool reject after Reds cancelled his loan deal

Remember Javier Manquillo?

The Spanish right-back was signed ahead of the 2014/15 season on a two-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid, but after just one, we sent him back to Spain – clearly unimpressed by his contribution.

However, it was clear the right-back had talent – he was perhaps just the victim of an awkward, transitionary season – and he’s proving that now on loan with Marseille.

The French giants borrowed him from Atletico when we got rid, and the 21-year-old is thriving in Ligue 1. So much so, Juventus are now being linked with a summer swoop for the fullback, according to talkSPORT.

The Champions League finalists from last season have been mightily impressed with Manquillo’s progress, and reportedly think they could persuade Atletico, who already have Juanfran at right-back, into a deal.

From our memories of Manquillo, he was positionally good, a strong natural defender, but was limited with the ball at his feet.

With Jon Flanagan and Nathaniel Clyne competing for the right-back spot at Liverpool, we probably shouldn’t shed too many tears over this one – though it will be interesting to watch Manquillo’s development from afar.
