Jurgen Klopp reacts to Man United draw: “I wanted them”

Matches against clubs from Manchester will define Liverpool’s season, it seems.

For us, this is pretty exciting. And for Jurgen Klopp too, it seems.

The manager has reacted to the fact Liverpool today drew Manchester United in the Europa League Last 16, with both matches set to take place in March.

“It’s great. We deserve these games. It’s not easy. I told my staff yesterday that I wanted Man United,” he told the pre-match press-conference before Sunday’s final against Manchester City, cited in the Echo.

“We had a good game and lost 1-0. It was not what we deserve. It gives us the chance to make it better. In this round, there is no easy games. Manchester United? Good.”

The fixtures will send shivers up the spines of both Liverpool and Manchester United supporters, and with it being the first time we’ve faced them in Europe – it’s imperative that we win.

Liverpool have lost all four matches to Louis van Gaal’s United – despite often outplaying his stale XI. Earlier in the season Christian Benteke notched a wonder-goal at Old Trafford, only for Anthony Martial to steal the headlines with his debut United strike.

Now with our fixed, exciting front-three though, we’ve a much improved chance of doing them damage.

Four of our upcoming matches are against City twice and then United twice. If they go belly up, well be out of all the cup competitions and mid-table in the Premier League.

If they go well, we’ll have won a cup, still be in Europe and be looking ahead of us in the Premier League.

Klopp’s right to be excited. These are the games that make it worth being a Liverpool fan. Let’s make them count!
