Top-class German duo remain of interest as Jurgen Klopp steps up search for wide player

Marco Reus and Mario Gotze remain of interest to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in a wide player this summer, according to The Mirror.

Both talents worked with Klopp to great acclaim at Borussia Dortmund. Gotze has moved on to Bayern Munich, but Reus remains at Westfalenstadion.

The Mirror claim that a winger is one of Klopp’s summer transfer, priorities and that the board are willing to give him the money to make it happen.

We would need to have serious financial backing to land either Reus or Gotze, both of whom are among the most desirable targets in their positions.

But David Maddock – The Mirror’s guy in the know as far as the Reds are concerned – is reporting that both top-class players remain firmly on our radar.

This is encouraging as rumours of a summer rebuild trigger thoughts of quantity over quality. Both Reus and Gotze would certainly provide the latter.

Gotze, Germany’s World Cup final hero in 2014, has only started four Bundesliga games for Bayern this season and is becoming unsettled, The Mirror adds.

The 23-year-old is probably the more attainable of the German duo. Any indication that Reus may be available is likely to prompt a mass bidding war.
