Jurgen Klopp has said that he told his players to “stay angry” as he refuses to rule out a late bid for the top four.

“Angriness in a sport is good,” he said.

He went on to tell the players to use their bitterness towards our 2-1 defeat against Palace at Anfield as a motivating factor:

“We should not have lost that game at home but we lost it. That’s how it is.

“If you think about some of the other games we have had, if we had three points then we would be talking differently. We would be talking about being around Manchester City or something like this.

“There are a lot of reasons to be angry. Crystal Palace are a really physical side. They will give you in the first two minutes 500 reasons to be angry.

“We need physicality. You can’t go to Crystal Palace and say we will play a little bit of football. I hope we can say (we are suited to being physical).

“I have seen the games when we were and I have seen the games when we haven’t been. That’s the truth. I can only hope we will be like that in the future. I really believe in this team. We have to be angry.”

The Palace game marks the first game of our last-chance saloon with regard to the top, and Klopp knows it:

“I think about bigger wonders in life (than reaching the top four),” he said.

“We have to take points consistently and we can watch the table. If something happens then we can judge if we can make it and think about being in the top four. We all will watch how the situation in the first three or four changes.

“We have to be minimum in the top four (in terms of points) for the last 11 games. Where that takes us at the end of the season, we will see.”

He finished by saying that the Europa League distraction could not be used as an excuse:

“We only have for sure two games in the Europa League. even though of course we want more. In the Premier we still have 11, so of course we should still be concentrating on the Premier League and the top four.”
