There’s some good, some average and some bad news regarding Liverpool’s injury situation, Reds.

Jurgen Klopp today confirmed that Daniel Sturridge, who missed Wednesday’s excellent victory over Manchester City, is training normally – but Mamadou Sakho has only returned to light training after he got concussed in Sunday’s League Cup Final.

Worryingly, Lucas’s injury is a bad one.

“No Lucas. It’s more serious than we thought. I’ve never heard of an injury like this, after taking a penalty,” Klopp said during today’s pre-match press-conference ahead of the Crystal Palace tie – before confirming the status of Sturridge and Sakho.

Lucas was the best player on the park during the League Cup Final, but it appears his missed penalty was costly to his health as well.

So impressive was his performance last weekend many Reds were calling for the Brazilian to start at centre-back full-time, but with Dejan Lovren fit and Martin Skrtel itching to return, it looks like that chance is scuppered.

Now, Klopp has to decide whether to bring Sturridge in for Origi who’s running really helped the team, and who’ll continue in central defence. After all, if Kolo Toure and Lovren can keep Sergio Aguero quiet they should be able to silence Connor Wickham, right?
