Sturridge insists Liverpool will go for the kill at Old Trafford

Daniel Sturridge has been speaking to the media in the aftermath of our 2-0 win over Man Utd on Thursday night.

The England international, who was replaced by Joe Allen after an hour, has told fans that the Liverpool players will “approach the second leg exactly the same as we [approached] the first leg” when they go to Old Trafford next Thursday.

“That’s the only way we know,” he added (via Echo).

“The Liverpool way is to win games so we will go into the second leg and be positive.

“The confidence is there within the camp and we are just looking forward to every game. We are mentally prepared for every job we have ahead of us.

“Firmino has been doing extremely well and hopefully that will continue

“It was a good step for us, but it is only the first leg. It is half a job. We are just looking at the second leg now and hopefully we will get the job done.

“De Gea is a world class goalkeeper and sometimes goalkeepers have fantastic games and he seems to be doing it often. He has kept us out a few times, but hopefully next week we will be able to put a few more of the chances away.”

It will definitely help Sturridge’s cause that we have no league game this weekend. We were due to play Chelsea on Sunday, but that was postponed due to the Blues ongoing involvement in the FA Cup.

It means we will have a full week of rest between the two games, while Man Utd have to face West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

On the flipside, it also means we will have two postponed games (against Everton and Chelsea) to fit into an already packed calendar. If we do progress to the quarters of the Europa League (and possibly beyond), it is difficult to see where they can be slotted in.
